Surgery Definition - What are the causes of post operative hypotension?
The causes of post operative hypotension are myocardial infarction which can be identified via ECG and cardiac enzyme and the treatment may focus on the diamorphine, glyceryl trinitrate, oxygen and aspirin, pulmonary embolism which can be identified via ECG ( S1Q3T3 changes), arterial blood gases, D dimer and chest x ray and treated with oxygen and low molecular weight heparins.
Other causes of post operative hypotension may include septicemia which can be identified via chest x ray, ECG, and blood culture and treated with antibiotics.
Neurogenic insult may also lead to post operative hypotension due to decreases sympathetic effect lead to vasodilation.
