Volvulus is a twisting of the colon about its mesenteric pedicle which resulted in mechanical obstruction. There are two types of volvulus such as cecal volvulus and sigmoid volvulus. Volvulus is associated with infarction of the bowel due to the compromise of the vascular system at the twisted pedicle.
