Acetaminophen Poisoning
The symptoms and signs of acetaminophen poisoning may include diaphoresis, anorexia, nausea, vomiting and pallor.
Acetaminophen poisoning is the most common cases of poisoning in children.
Patient may present with elevation of acetaminophen level which can be plotted using the Rumack- Matthew nomogram to identify the level of toxicity.
The level of bilirubin, ALT and AST will increase in case of acetaminophen poisoning.
Special tests such as urine drug screen and serum ASA level should also be considered in cases of intentional ingestion.
The treatment of acetaminophen poisoning will focus on the N acetyl cysteine IV administration or oral administration.
