Hematuria is the presence of the blood in the urine which is microscopic or macroscopic in nature. The causes of hematuria may include general causes such as clotting impairment due to liver pathology, anticoagulation therapy with aspirin and warfarin and bleeding dyscrasias, kidney causes such as pyelonephritis, tuberculosis, trauma, carcinoma, sickle cell disease, thromboembolism and kidney calculi, ureter causes of hematuria such as neoplasm or the ureter calculi, bladder causes of hematuria such as cystitis, schistosomiasis, carcinoma of the bladder and bladder calculi, prostate causes hematuria such as prostatic carcinoma and benign prostatic hyperplasia and urethra related hematuria such as urethritis, carcinoma of the urethra, calculi and trauma due to catheterization.
