HEMORRHOIDS
1. Warm saline sitz baths 4 times a day and after each bowel movement.
2. Tap water or saline enema to remove any hard stools.
3. Docusate sodium (Colace) 1–2 capsules bid.
4. Alternatively, soften stools with psyllium (Metamucil) smooth texture 1–2 teaspoons mixed in a glass of water twice a day or mineral oil 1–2 tablespoons twice a day.
5. Anusol HC suppositories: 1–2 after each BM.
6. Alternatively may use rectal hydrocortisone (Cortifoam): 10–100 mg bid per rectum.
7. Thrombosed external hemorrhoids may be lanced and the clot pressed out.
8. Refer to proctologist for more definitive treatment if symptoms persist.
