Type A gastritis is associated with reduced production of the acid and antibodies to the parietal cell. Type A gastritis is associated with autoimmune disease such as pernicious anemia or vitamin B12 deficiency. This happens because of production of intrinsic factor by parietal cells which involves the absorption of vitamin B12 in the terminal ileum. In type A gastritis, antibodies will act against the parietal cells and reduced the production of intrinsic factor which lead to vitamin B12 deficiency.
