PROSTATITIS, CHRONIC
1. Unless smear and cultures of prostatic secretions yield positive results there is no specific treatment.
2. NSAIDs such as naproxen (Naprosyn) 500 mg bid–tid may be tried.
3. A therapeutic trial of ciprofloxacin (Cipro) 500 mg bid for 4–6
weeks may be tried. At the same time administer metronidazole
(Flagyl) 500 mg bid to avoid Clostridia difficile.
4. Warm sitz baths bid and weekly prostatic massage for 2–4 weeks may help in some cases.
5. Consult an urologist.
