Alendronate is useful in treating patient with osteoporosis, hypercalcemia due to malignancy or Paget disease of the bone. Alendronate will inhibit osteoclastic activity and stimulating osteoclastic cellular death. As a consequences, alendronate may decrease osteoclastic reabsorption of the bone.
Aldendronate carries significant side effects such as gastrointestinal discomfort. Alendronate is part of bisphosphonates.
