Surgery Definition – What is the anatomy of the femoral canal?
Femoral canal consists of anterior, posterior, medial and lateral boundaries. The anterior boundary consists of inguinal ligament. The posterior boundary consists of the Cooper’s ligament / pectineal ligament. The medial boundary consists of the iliopubic tract, Gimbernat’s ligament or lacunar ligament and lateral boundary consists of the femoral vein. The content of the femoral canal includes deep inguinal node of Cloquet and fatty connective tissue. Femoral canal is the common site of femoral herniation.
