Symptom Finder - Treatment of Herpes Simplex
HERPES SIMPLEX
Oral or genital lesions can be treated with one of the following:
Initial Treatment:
1. Valacyclovir (Valtrex): 2 g bid for 1 day for oral herpes or 1 g bid × 10 days for genital herpes.
2. Acyclovir (Zovirax) 200 mg 5× a day × 7–10 days for oral and genital herpes.
3. Famciclovir (Famvir): 250 mg tid × 7–10 days for oral or genital herpes.
Recurrent Treatment:
1. Valacyclovir (Valtrex): 500 mg bid × 3 days. Frequent Recurrences (more than 10/year):
1. Valacyclovir (Valtrex): 1 g daily.
