Symptom Finder - Treatment of Impetigo
IMPETIGO
1. Debridement of lesions with antibacterial soaps and gauze sponges.
2. Launder bedding and clothes that might have been exposed to the bacteria before treatment was begun.
3. Local treatment with mupirocin (Bactroban) ointment or cream bid–tid.
4. Dicloxacillin (Dynapen): 250–500 mg qid, p.o.
5. For MRSA organisms, give linezolid (Zyvox) 400–600 mg IV or p.o. q12hrs in adults and 10 mg/kg IV or p.o. q6hrs in children.
