Symptom Finder - Treatment of Epididymoorchitis
EPIDIDYMO-ORCHITIS
1. Elevate scrotum on sling or athletic support.
2. Initially, complete bed rest with ice packs and analgesics.
3. Ciprofloxacin (Cipro): 500–750 mg bid p.o. or 200–400 IV q12hrs.
4. Alternatively ceftriaxone (Rocephin): 1–2 g IV q12hrs.
5. Urine culture, sensitivity, and colony count and urethral smear and culture.
6. In men under 40, treat for chlamydia with doxycycline (Vancomycin): 100 mg bid × 14 days. Also treat for gonorrhoea with ceftriaxone (Rocephin): 250 mg IM.
7. Order serologic tests for syphilis and HIV.
8. Test all recent sexual partners (within past 30 days) for gonorrhea
and Chlamydia.
