Pediatric Definition - Bacterial Vaginosis
Bacterial Vaginosis
May present with heavy malodorous ( fish odor post intercourse or menses) homogenous gray white discharge. Patient may also present with dysuria and vaginal discharge.
The complications of bacterial vaginosis include pelvic inflammatory disease, post partum endometritis, and urinary tract infection.
The common test include whiff test which involve the detection of the fishy amine odor after exposure to 10 percent potassium hydroxide. There will be evidence of clue cells which include squamous epithelial cells with multiple bacteria adhering to the cells.
The treatment of bacterial vaginosis may include antibiotic such as metronidazole or clindamycin.
