What are the common symptomatology in MSK disorders?
A.Chief complaints: Pain in joints (arthralgia), or pain and swelling in joints (arthritis)
with onset and duration, axial (spine) or appendicular (peripheral) joints involved;
large or small joints, single or multiple joints affected; fleeting (rheumatic arthritis),
additive (rheumatoid arthritis) or intermittent (gout) joint involvement; whether
associated with morning stiffness, muscle weakness, joint deformity, loss of appetite
or loss of weight, fever, conjunctivitis, skin rash, oral or genital ulcer, dry mouth,
alopecia, or lymphadenopathy.
B. Past history: Trauma, tuberculosis, dengue or chikungunya, bleeding diathesis (e.g.,
haemophilia), dysentery or UTI, sexual exposure, sore throat, miscarriage.
C. Family history: Tuberculosis, bleeding diathesis (e.g., haemophilia), ankylosing
spondylitis, gout.
D.Personal history: Regarding dietary history, a patient of gout should be asked whether
he is taking red meat, alcohol or seafood.
E. Occupational history: Should be taken into account (e.g., prolonged table work may
initiate back pain).
F. Obstetric history: H/o foetal loss is common in anticardiolipin antibody syndrome.
