How do you interpret the test?
If the greater saphenous vein refills rapidly before the tourniquet is released, this indicates backfilling from
incompetent valves of the communicating veins.
If the greater saphenous vein refills rapidly after the tourniquet is released, this indicates backfilling from
incompetent valves of the greater saphenous vein itself.
Patients with arterial insufficiency may have a false negative test.
