Ambitendence is a form of psychiatric disturbance commonly seen in catatonia which is the state of ambivalence and the patient may have altering states of opposition and cooperation. The condition is apparent in the scenario where the patient may unable to make up his / her mind to shake or not the hand of the interviewer and may shift constantly between holding and withdrawing the hand.
