Alpha blocker or known as alpha adrenergic blocker is a form of medication which prevent the stimulation of the alpha adrenoceptors at the nerve ending of the sympathetic nervous systems by the adrenaline and noradrenaline. Alpha blocker will cause relaxation of the smooth muscle, vasodilation of the arteries and reduction in blood pressure. The common alpha blockers are phentolamine, alfuzosin, prazosin, doxazosin and tamsulosin. The excessive intake of alpha blocker may lead to hypotension, nausea, tachycardia, diarrhea, vomiting, convulsion, dry mouth, drowsiness, flushed skin and coma.
