Alimentary canal is the passage where the food passes to be absorbed after being digested. Alimentary canal will extend from the mouth to the anus and each parts of the alimentary canal has a specific function in food processing from mechanical breakdown of the food in the mouth to the digestion based on chemical reaction in the stomach and absorption which takes place in the small intestine. The final stage involves the formation of feces and absorption of water in the rectum and colon.
