What is McBurney’s sign?
It is maximum tenderness and rigidity elicited by pressure of one finger over McBurney’s point. This is
located 1.5–2 inches medial to the right anterosuperior iliac spine, on a line that joins it to the umbilicus.
Although most patients with appendicitis have right lower quadrant tenderness, tenderness in the
McBurney’s point has slightly better specificity (75– 85%).
