Surgery Definition - What is knee joint?
Knee joint is also known as hinge joint which focused on the extension and flexion movement. The hinge joint is formed by the upper end of the tibia and anteriorly the patella with the femur lower end. The knee joint is covered with synovium. The blood supply is provided in the capsule. The ligament of the patella will attached to the top of the tibia and involves in extension while quadriceps will attach to the patella and facilitated extension movement too. There will be neuromuscular structure located posteriorly and hamstring muscle which involves in flexion movement. The present of anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments provide stability. The medial and lateral collateral ligament also provide stability. The lateral and medial menisci will act as shock absorbers.
