Atrioventricular Septal Defect
Atrioventricular septal defect may present with right or left ventricular hypertrophy detected on ECHO, left axis deviation and first degree heart block on ECG and cardiac enlargement with increased in the pulmonary vascular markings.
Atrioventricular septal defect is a congenital heart disease with association with individual with trisomy 21. Other forms of congenital heart disease are ventricular septal defect and atrial septal defect.
Patient mostly neonates may present with inaudible murmur or systolic murmur as well symptoms and signs of congestive heart failure, diaphoresis with feeding, tachypnea and failure to thrive.
The treatment of atrioventricular septal defect is surgical repair.
