Surgery Definition – How to deal with small bowel injury?
Injury to the small bowel occurs due to penetrating injury, trauma, rupture or burst of the small bowel with blunt trauma. Any tears in the mesenteric may impair the blood supply which lead to bowel ischemia. Small bowel injury is considered as one of the causes of intra abdominal bleeding. Small bowel injury is identified by diagnostic peritoneal lavage. The treatment may focus on surgical approach either to repair the defect or consider resection with primary anastomosis if the section that is injured is not viable at surgery.
