Meckel’s diverticulum is a true diverticulum that present at the anti mesenteric border of the terminal ileum. Meckel’s diverticulum is represented as the embryological remnant of the vitello intestinal duct. Meckel’s diverticulum may represent appendicitis as if the ectopic gastric mucosa present it may perforate or ulcerate it. Meckel’s diverticulum affects 2 percent of the population and twice is more common in male than female. Meckel’s diverticulum is 2 inches long and found 2 feet from the ileocecal junction. Meckel’s diverticulum is also one of the causes of rectal bleeding.
Meckel’s diverticulum is diagnosed mostly clinically and can be scanned with IV technetium pertechnetate or known as Meckel’s scan. The treatment of Meckel’s diverticulum includes surgical excision.
