Recently, there is a trend that whole blood is rarely used for transfusions, rather
transfusions are done by the of blood components. Blood components are prepared
from single donations and they are:
1. Blood components: Red cell concentrate, granulocyte concentrate, platelet concentrate,
fresh frozen plasma (FFP), cryoprecipitate (e.g., concentrate of factor VIII or vW
factor).
2. Blood products: Albumin, coagulation factor concentrates and immunoglobulins are
made from plasma.
