Medical Dictionary – The definition of Dissecting Aneurysm
Dissecting aneurysm may present with abnormal dilation of the thoracic aorta due to the degenerative disorder of the muscular layer of the vessel. The degenerative disorder may lead to the tear in the lining of the aorta. This leads to the blood entering the wall of the aorta and dissect the muscular coat. The dissecting aneurysm may compress the blood vessel arising from the aorta and producing localized necrosis / infarction in the organ that it supplies or rupture. Patient with dissecting aneurysm may complain of severe pain in the chest with a tearing quality which spreads to the abdomen, shoulder and back. Emergency surgical repair is needed.
