Ampicillin is also known as Rimacillin or Penbritin. Ampicillin is given orally, via infusion or through injection and a form of semisynthetic medication useful in treating various infections such as biliary infection, intestinal infection, respiratory infection and urinary tract infection. The common side effects of ampicillin are diarrhea, allergic reaction, nausea and vomiting. Ampicillin will also be inactivated by penicillinase and should not be used against microorganism producing this enzyme.
