Amblyoscope or synoptophore or orthoptoscope is an instrument which is used to measure the angle of a squint. Amblyoscope is also used to assess the degree to which the both eyes being used by the patient. Amblyoscope consists of two L shaped tube where the short arms are joined by a hinge so that the long arms will point away from each other. The subject need to look at the short end and each eye sees a different pictures through mirrors and lenses which are placed at the other end of each tube. The present of squint will be detected by the need to adjust the tube so that the short arms able to line up with the direction of each eye.
