Airway obstruction is due to the blockage of the passage of entry of air to the lung. It may be complete airway obstruction or partial airway obstruction. Partial airway obstruction is characterized by the ability of the patient to move some air in and out of the lungs with difficulty. Partly obstructed airway may present with a distinctive sound on inspiration. Complete airway obstruction will lead to respiratory arrest and cardiac arrest which require support and clearance of the airway.
