The abdominoperineal resection is a surgical procedure which is considered in patient with anal canal tumor and patient with poor function of the sphincter as well as tumor of the lower third of the rectum. Abdominoperineal resection may involve surgical removal of the rectum, anal sphincter and part of the sigmoid colon. Abdominoperinal resection is performed via laparoscopically or via the perineal and abdominal incision.The remaining length of the sigmoid colon is brought through the abdominal wall which lead to the formation of stoma.
