The Stevens Johnson Syndrome /Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis lesions have only two zones of color: a central dusky purpura (or central bulla), surrounded by a macular erythema. Conversely, a classic target lesion of Erythema Multiforme has three zones of color: a central dusky purpura (or central bulla), a surrounding edematous pale zone, and a surrounding macular erythema. Except for the central bulla, the initial lesion of Stevens Johnson Syndrome /Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis is also typically flat. Conversely, lesions of erythema multiforme are more likely palpable.
